Historic Market Hall Clock

The Market Hall Clock is a well-known historic feature located on the former Worcester Market Hall building in Worcester city centre. Although the original Market Hall building no longer exists, the clock remains an important reminder of the city’s commercial past. The Market Hall clock in Worcester was the prominent clock on the old Market Hall that once stood at the heart of the city’s trading area near today’s Shambles and High Street.

Historic Market Hall and its clock

  • Worcester’s Market Hall was a major covered market building serving butchers, greengrocers and other traders in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with a clock that helped mark trading hours and city life.
  • The building formed part of the old civic and market complex which acted as a focus for street markets and stalls around The Shambles and adjoining streets.

Market area today

  • The area around The Shambles is now a mix of modern shops, small markets and refurbished buildings, with no original Market Hall clock tower remaining in place.
  • Visitors today experience a contemporary shopping and food area built on the footprint of the historic market, while the old clock survives only as a piece of Worcester’s heritage rather than a working public timepiece.
