A joint venture between award-winning Thornbridge Brewery, York-based Pub Co, and specialist beer importer Pivovar, The Market Cat combines traditional city-centre pub charm with a modern twist. Whether you want to catch up with friends, unwind after work, or enjoy some craft beer and freshly made pizza, The Market Cat is the perfect destination.
Housed in a historic building previously occupied by Yorkshire pawnbroker Herbert Brown & Son, the pub underwent a sensitive renovation to offer a traditional look with a modern twist. Its three-storey layout ensures each floor has a unique atmosphere:
- Ground Floor: Traditional city-centre boozer feel with mahogany panels, leather sofas, and a cosy snug.
- First Floor Kitchen-Diner: Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Shambles Market, perfect for a relaxed meal.
- Top Floor: Booths lining the windows for spectacular views over the rooftops of York, including York Minster. You can also watch the beer cellar in action from above.
In the summer, the top floor windows can be folded back, letting visitors enjoy a drink while watching the lively market below.
Food – Milanese-Style Pizzas & More
The Market Cat is renowned for its Milanese-style pizzas, made fresh daily. Dough is prepared using specially selected Italian flour and Thornbridge’s multi-award-winning Jaipur IPA, ensuring a unique and flavourful base.
